Andrews World
Welcome to the new look andrewsmall.net.
I've been locked away in my studio for the last few months mainly recording, producing and playing drums on a number of projects (as well as getting my head down practising!!)
Recently I sat next to Guy Richman as he played the musical 'Wicked' in London's West end which was amazing and also got to see Ian Thomas at the 606 jazz club which again was a great evening's listening.
There have been 2 albums nearly on constant rotation in my car since the back end of 2010.
First up is the Grammy award winning Israel Houghton's 'Love God Love People' which came out last year and was recorded at Abbey Road. There's some really good songwriting contained in this project and the musicianship is awesome. Teddy Campbell and Dan Needham are the guys occupying the rum chair. Well worth a listen.
Second is Randy Waldman's 'Timing is Everything', a jazz trio album from 2003 which I only became aware of about 5 months ago. As well as being a beautifully recorded album, Waldman's piano playing stands out as something extremely special. Coupled without the fact Vinnie Colaiuta and Brian Bromberg are on drums and bass respectively, there's some jaw dropping stuff going on throughout the record….this album is no doubt largely responsible for my recent spurt of practice…
